Editorial

Welcome to the twenty-first issue of Baffling Magazine.

This issue is unthemed and has seven offerings—six from from authors new to Baffling and one returning author (Bastian Hart).

We begin with Claire Jia-Wen’s arresting and sharp “Assimilation, Through the Ocean Taking Bites from the Moon,” followed by the gentle and wry “The Bureaucromancers’ Duel” by Michael M. Jones. Then, two authors who deliver everyday boons and bones respectively: Raja’a Khalid’s “Corniche Splendor” and Rose Maxwell’s “Cursebreaker.” Madi Haab’s “At First Blush” gives us a touch more stellar sweetness and then Gina Thayer’s “Before the Night Goes Wrong” follows it with an ominous aftertaste. Our final story, “Roost” by Bastian Hart, is a visceral closer, and the inspiration for our cover by Kat Weaver.

Thank you so much to those supporting us on Patreon. You are a vital part of keeping this magazine alive!

Enjoy the issue!
